What is dealing with mental health like as a man?
Mental health is a huge crisis in men these days. I elected to bring awareness to that by highlighting athletes that are outspoken about the subject and highlighted them.

I wanted to render the mental health crisis as an infographic, with accompanying graphics to highlight the subject matter.

Colors
For this series, I elected to represent depression as a burden that one must wear as one does clothing. It is for this reason that I selected shades of blue to reflect the athletes’ experiences with depression and mental health.

Type Kit
Aachen is a heavy slab font that is reminiscent of sports numbers and sports advertising. It is also a nod to macho culture, where men are expected to hide their feelings and portray a strong, unbothered presence toward others.
Helvetica is a classic jack of all trades font that remains popular for virtually any typographical use case.

Initially, I rendered some fairly generic infographics to drive the point home, using depressive colors to represent the subject.
The project evolved to a focus on famous men that were outspoken about mental health, keeping the stylistic renderings of the previous iterations of the men.
I further narrowed down the subject to outspoken athletes, and created a sense of repetition through consistent placement of the athletes and their messages.
Final Triptych
The end result combines humanistic colors, contrast, and the fact that mental health is a struggle that everyone wears in the same way that athletes wear their uniform.
